YMMV, but from my experience — Zigbee works great with my setup.
MQTTMaster: Honestly, I'd go with OpenHAB over Vera for reliability. Just remember the setup time.

Totally agree — I had the same issue and solved it by reconfiguring the hub. Took me forever to find that parameter.
